LOA offers an opportunity for area seniors to get free health screenings.
LOA has joined forces with local health professionals to provide “heads up” cursory health exams. Carilion Center For Healthy Aging, Jefferson College of Health Science, Gentiva Home Health, Mental Health America, Good Samaritan Hospice, Heartland Home Health and Rehab, Home Instead Senior Care, Eye Care Surgery and many others are donating their time and supplies to provide eye exams, blood pressure and blood sugar screenings, oral cancer checks, hearing screenings, hydration and depression screenings and much more. Roanoke City Health Department will administer flu shots for free with Medicare card.
Wellness Day is not an ordinary health fair. There are many organizations that provide valuable heath checks. The screenings offered at Wellness Day are not intended to replace the annual physical exams by the participant’s health care professionals. They are merely intended to give a “heads up” on potential health problems that may have been previously undetected.
To register you may complete the following and mail to Wellness Day, LOA Area Agency on Aging, PO Box 14205, Roanoke, VA 24038.
Pre-registration is required. Results are shared only with the health professionals and appropriate LOA staff when follow up is indicated by the screening. Cases of high blood sugar and high blood pressure have been found when previously undetected, making this event well worth all the effort required to put it on.
