Let’s Do Lunch

LOA Area Agency on Aging has scheduled the annual fundraiser, “Let’s Do Lunch,” to benefit Meals-on-Wheels for Friday, June 17, 2016, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The eat-in portion of the event will be held at the Kazim Temple, 628 Campbell Ave SW (next to the LOA central office).  Curbside pickup orders will be available for pick up in the LOA parking lot.

One $15 ticket will purchase a gourmet lunch.  The menu Gourmet Deli Sandwich on a Honey Wheat Loaf with ham, turkey, provolone and cheddar; Italian Pasta Salad; Fresh Fruit; Chips, A Sweet Treat from The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center and Bottled Water.  Ticket holders are invited to “eat in” at the Kazim Temple Ballroom and enjoy live music by Jane Powell with William Penn and Friends.  The Meals on Wheels Raffle will be on display.  Or, ticket holders can pick-up their meal to take with them.  Free delivery is provided to local businesses and residences for orders of five or more meals (orders must be received by Friday, June 3.)

Some tickets may be available for sale the day of the event.  However, you are encouraged to buy your tickets in advance.  Tickets purchased on June 17 will be $20.  We only have 2700 tickets to sell so get your orders in soon!

The proceeds from each ticket purchased will provide Meals-on-Wheels to the homebound elderly right here in the Roanoke Valley.  Every ticket sold will purchase 3 meals for our homebound elderly clients.  In 2016, the event raised more than $65,000.  The Meals-on-Wheels program serves a nutritious lunch to homebound elderly 60 and older every weekday.  The proceeds from ticket sales are used solely for the purchase of the meals.

Public Hearing

The LOA Area Agency on Aging will hold a Public Hearing for its Area Plan for Aging Services on Wednesday, July 20 at 10 a.m. in the Community Room at Edinburgh Square, 129 Hershberger Road, Roanoke.

The LOA will present its budget for the upcoming fiscal year as well as discuss any planned changes to its programs.  Public input will be considered.

 

Caregiving & Retiring:  Planning for the Future

The LOA is hosting its annual conference on Tuesday, August 16 at the Holiday Inn Tanglewood, 4468 Starkey Road, Roanoke.  Registration fee is $25 and includes a continental breakfast and lunch.  Registration closes on August 9.  To register, follow the link below.
