LOA is participating in the Belk Charity Sale to raise funds for Meals on Wheels. The Belk Charity Sale is a private, four-hour sale dedicated to supporting local non-profit organizations. Participating charities have the opportunity to raise money by selling event tickets at $5.00 each—100% of the proceeds from the tickets sold by LOA are retained for Meals-on-Wheels.
Anyone who purchases a $5 ticket can:

LOA Announces Annual Meeting
The LOA Area Agency on Aging will hold its Annual Meeting and 40thAnniversary Celebration, on Thursday, April 5, at the Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center, 110 Shenandoah Ave, Roanoke. Lunch will be served at noon with keynote address and award ceremony to follow. Registration will begin at11:30 a.m. Cost to cover the meal is $25.
The LOA will present awards for public-private partnership, interagency participation, a staff award and the annual Babe and Sidney Louis Memorial Award for an outstanding philanthropist.
William A Hazel, Jr., Virginia Secretary of Health and Human Resources, will serve as the keynote speaker.

Winter is a difficult time for our older homebound neighbors and the choice between food and heat can be hard. Help make the decision easy by making sure their shelves are stocked with warming soups and other non-perishable food items. Help end senior hunger by giving soup and crackers to the LOA’s annual “Soup for Seniors” collection in collaboration with AARP. Your contribution will make a huge difference in the lives of your homebound neighbors.
The drive will take place January 23 – 28 between the hours of9 a.m.and6 p.m. The main collection site is New Covenant Christian Church, 4807 Cove Road., NW, Roanoke. Other collection sites include:

This year’s goal is 30,000 cans of soup to be delivered to more than 3,000 local residents. A hot bowl of soup on a cold day can go a long way in making sure no senior goes hungry.
