Senior Companion Program
The Senior Companion Program enables volunteers to remain physically and mentally active and to enhance their self-esteem through continued participation in needed community service.
The Senior Companion volunteers, in turn, enable older persons to remain at home by providing support with their daily routine, of light housework, meal preparation, grocery shopping, taking care of errands and providing respite for family members.
As a Senior Companion, you will receive many benefits!
- An hourly stipend of $2.65 per hour
- Meals or reimbursement for meals
- Mileage reimbursement
- Monthly trainings
- Annual recognition
- Annual Wellness Screenings
To be considered for enrollment as a volunteer, a person must:
- Be age 55 or older
- Meet income eligibility guidelines
- Be physically and mentally capable of serving their clients
- Pass a national criminal background check
Call the LOA office at (540) 985-9600 to apply or find out more information.
The Senior Companion Program is sponsored locally by the LOA Area Agency on Aging and is part of the Senior Service Corps and federally funded through the Corporation for National and Community Service. Funding is also received from the Foundation for Roanoke Valley.
