We invite companies and organizations to partner with us by underwriting the costs of one or more of our signature events including Soup for Seniors, Senior Health Fair, and Let’s Give Lunch. With your sponsorship, your business will be seen by thousands of older adults in the Roanoke, Botetourt, Alleghany, and Craig areas.
LOA’s Emergency Food Pantry provides an emergency bag of food and/or personal care items to our seniors with urgent needs.
LOA partners with the Roanoke Valley SPCA for the Pets Eat Too (PET) Program. The partnership enables LOA volunteers to provide weekly deliveries of cat and dog food to Meals on Wheels recipients that need pet food. Dry dog food and dry cat food donations are needed: donations can be dropped off during normal business hours at the Roanoke Valley SPCA, 1340 Baldwin Ave NE, Roanoke, VA 24012. Designate that your donation is for the Pets Eat Too (PET) Program for Meals on Wheels.
Do you have a shower chair or rollator that you would like to send to a good home? Items that our seniors often request include walkers, rollators, bath benches, shower chairs, wheelchairs, and canes. LOA partners with the F.R.E.E. Foundation, who refurbishes gently used durable medical equipment that is then donated to LOA service recipients who have a need. Equipment donations in the Roanoke area may be dropped off at: Goodwill Donation Center, 1489 East Main Street, Salem, VA 24153. Let them know your donation is for the F.R.E.E. Foundation for LOA.
If you have a donor-advised fund, please consider recommending a grant to LOA! A Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) allows you to make charitable contributions and receive an immediate tax deduction. The funds are managed by a DAF custodian, and you can recommend grants to charities like LOA whenever you wish. Recommend a grant from your donor-advised fund be directed to LOA using our Tax ID 54-0916248, Local Office on Aging, Inc., P.O. Box 14205, Roanoke, VA 24038-4205. If you’re age 70 1/2 or older, you can donate up to $111,000 per tax year directly from an IRA with a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) to a charity like LOA. QCDs can lower your taxable income while satisfying your required annual withdrawals. You can benefit from a QCD even if you take the standard deduction on your tax return instead of itemizing.
Contact your IRA administrator and instruct them to transfer funds to LOA. Have your administrator note that the transfer is an IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution. Your financial institution should make the check out to “Local Office on Aging” and identify you as the donor by name and address and mail the check to: Local Office on Aging, Inc., P.O. Box 14205, Roanoke, VA 24038-4205.

Donating appreciated stock directly to LOA saves tax liability by eliminating capital gains tax and providing an income tax deduction for the stock’s full market value. Because you bypass capital gains tax, LOA receives up to 20% more funds than if you had sold the shares yourself and donated the cash proceeds. Contact us with the name of the stock and number of shares you want to give, and we’ll give you instructions on how to transfer the stock to LOA: landerson@loaa.org or (540) 345-0451 ext 3055.
